Role Summary:
The Mechatronics Engineer role is focused on the design and development of new products or components for NPIs and develop automatized systems for testing and validation of those products and/or technologies created for our Videndum Production Imaging brands. As part of a project team, the role will include supporting Product Management to confirm the design intent and requirements of new products and prototypes, research and development of new technologies and methodologies to define and optimize new or existing products, provide tools to improve the product specifications, develop new concepts from first principles, iterating and refining prototypes, integrating design for manufacture and quality principles in all activities related to the design confirmation of new products, product support and value engineering.
Work Location: Hybrid - Minimum 3 days a week in the office at Cartago, Costa Rica.
Your day-to-day might include:
Engineering
Acquire comprehensive understanding of customer needs and the potential for novel product functionality.
Conceive and develop innovative automatize systems to confirm the design of new products.
Undertake theoretical analysis and mathematical modelling in support of concept development and design verification.
Support the Mechanical Engineering Testing Lab activities and coordinate in a timely manner all the tests requested for NPI´s projects, Product Support and Value Engineering Projects.
Coordinate the calibration and maintenance of all the equipment assigned to the Mechanical Engineering Testing Lab.
Identify new technologies for beneficial application in company products.
Design testing methodologies able to prove physical, mechanical, and electrical properties of individual components or entire products.
Devise, implement and document appropriate experiments and tests.
Evaluate through statistical and probabilistic tools the measurement procedures and methods developed for product definition or validation of technologies.
Apply reliability concepts in the design and development of endurance tests and product definition.
Plan and conduct projects to defined milestones and cost targets.
Identify new equipment for the Testing Lab according to the needs of Videndum Production Solutions to validate products and technologies.
Support initiatives from IT, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Departments regarding the automatization, control systems, data acquisition, and the development of mechatronics applications to optimize the current production, reduce manufacturing costs and improve the quality of products and assembly lines.
Support
Support Product Management in defining the testing required to validate the development of a new product or technology.
Collaborating with peers in developing optimal processes and environment for innovation.
Supervising
Leading Development Technicians to execute tests, equipment verification and any activities related to Mechanical Engineering Testing Lab.
Mentoring technicians.

What We’re Looking For:
Minimum 2 years-experience in mechanical / mechatronics product design.
Expertise in CAD, preferably using ‘high end’ 3D systems such as Siemens NX, Inventor or Solidworks.
Good programming skills of programable automation controllers (LabView, PLCs).
Minitab or similar.
Proficient in Statistical/Probabilistic analysis for data validation (Gauge R&Rs, DOEs, Hypothesis Tests, Capability Analysis, Control Charts)
Reliability Concepts and Calculations.
Experience of microprocessor / microcontroller applications, programming, servo design, instrumentation, acquisition data hardware (NI cRio).
Able to apply appropriate theoretical analysis in the development of engineering solutions.
Experience of precision machined parts, mechanisms and transmissions.
Able to work to tight deadlines
Able to create and maintain comprehensive records and test documentation.
Ability to use own initiative to address problems and present solutions.

Nice to Have:
Experience of hydraulics or pneumatics.
3D dynamic systems, such as active suspension or robotic arms.
Knowledge in FEA, 3D printing, rapid prototyping.

Education and Qualifications:
Degree or equivalent in a related to Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience in a similar role.
