Electronics Design Engineer

Role Summary:
This role requires the ability to conceive, evaluate and implement innovative product solutions through research, analysis, design, development and the application of appropriate technologies. This role will involve the origination of new designs as well as the support of current products.
Work Location: Hybrid - Minimum 3 days a week in the office at Bury St. Edmunds.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Electronics system design to component level and schematics capture
- PCB layout design and generation of manufacturing data
- Electronic component programming to meet the design requirements
- Generation and maintenance of electronic parts/ library in design environment
- Electronic product design testing and fault finding to component level
- Product environmental performance testing to in-house standards
- Product EMC compliance testing to international standards and submission to third party test authorities
- Product safety compliance testing to international standards and submission to third party test authorities
- The generation of concise and accurate design documentation that is saved in the product design files
- To support the product design through the NPI process and when in production
- To contribute to the generation of a product functional and performance specification as required
- To contribute to the generation of a product design and development plan as required
- To evaluate suitable technologies to support product innovation
- Liaison with other engineering team members on product design and development
- Liaison with third party PCB design consultants
- Liaison with PCB manufacturers and PCB assembly and test suppliers

Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
- Experience in electronic design and design capture using schematic tools
- Experience in analogue circuit design using both discrete and integrated technologies
- Experience in digital circuit design including microprocessor and programmable logic technologies
- Experience in PCB design and layout best practice in PADs or Mentor Graphics schematic capture tools
- Able to apply appropriate theoretical analysis in the development of engineering solutions
- Able to work to tight deadlines
- Able to create and maintain comprehensive records and test documentation
Desirable:
- Knowledge of PADs or Mentor Graphics schematic capture tools
- Knowledge of DX Designers PCB design environment
- Knowledge of P-Spice /National Instruments MultiSim or similar tools
- Knowledge of VHDL or other hardware description language
- Experience in mechanical CAD, preferably using ‘high end’ 3D systems
Education and Qualifications:
- Relevant degree in Electrical Engineering or related subject
